dd1 has some sort of virus and it's almost her birthday. Does anyone know what it is/how long it will last?

She has very few symptoms. Just high temp. 39.6 atm. But it brought down with Nuerofen. She is sick, but only when her temp is high and says that her throat hurts.

For about two hours after taking Nuerofen she seems fine, but only until it starts wearing off. Her birthady is Wednesday.

yep shes got the pre birthday bug, its a very similar strain to the pre holiday bug and pre mum and dad going out for the night bug, good news is that she will probably be much better by wednesday.

The bad news is that her temp is getting worryingly high. Keep a very close eye on that temp. Try giving calpol instead of nurofen usually one or the other will bring the temp down, if her temp isn't normal 45 mins after giving calpol then ring your out of hours gp. 40 degrees is the danger number for febrile convulsions.....

Hope she feeling better soon and has a lovely birthday

We are keeping a good eye on the temp. Dd1 seems to be one of those children whose temp's soar at so much of a sniffle. We often have temps of 39.8/9. She has seen a pead whob says she is just one of those kids who get sick a lot

Incidentially, we are due a night out next week. Our first in about three years

She seems to have perked up slightly since she came down stairs to be sick and was given Neurofen about 20 mins ago.

Glad you are aware of the temp issue, ds1 ( no3 ) also has high temps when he has temps iykwim but in august he suddenly started spiking his temp, so his temp went from a "normal" high temp of 38.8 to well over 41 degrees in approx 10 mins. I've always been concerned about temps and feb convulsions, after it happened to one of my friends dc, now its happened to one of mine. Hope shes feeling beter soon.

what are her tonsils like? (wondering if she has tonsilitis)

ShinyAndNew · 06/12/2009 12:48

Hmmm, I haven't checked her tonsills but she is having trouble swallowing, I'll check. I hadn't even thought of that.

She is still poorly today, so looks like no school tomorrow.
