Swollen glands in tummy - good news stories please

DD (4) has had acute pains in her tummy since Monday. Originally the doc suspected appendicitis but it hasn't got any worse and the GP next day thought it was unlikely to be that. However she has not got any better and GP doesn't know what problem is. Having done my own research, I suspect she might have swollen glands in her tummy (Mesenteric adenitis) especially as the GP said the glands in her neck were slightly swollen and she also had sore throat and raised temperature a couple of days before the tummy pains started.

The info I've read said that MA is v common and will get better within a few days on it's own which is great. However, looking at some old MN threads, some children seem to have it for weeks without improvement. I just wanted some good news stories where it has cleared up on it's own more quickly.

Oh, we have been there. Thought appendicitis, back and forward to Docs & A&E, and ended up with a hospital referral for X-ray etc where they confirmed glands in tummy - I didn't know they existed!

DS was prescribed Buscopan (used for IBS) which relieves spasms and really helped. Before that he was alternating Paracetamol & Ibuprofen and it didn't really help.

Once the spasms had been relieved it DID get better quite quickly.

We now know that if he is ill he is prone to tummy pains, but they eased off as he grew.

Can you get some Buscopan?

Thanks Milliways. Impressively, the GP we saw on Tues phoned unprompted this morning to see how DD was so I ran my theory past him and he agreed that's what it's likely to be. Thankfully, she's responded really well to nurofen and also seems to have picked up today anyway so fingers crossed she's over the worst. Like you, I have never heard of glands in tummy before - amazing actually how much pain they could cause and also how it isn't diagnosed quicker.

Useful to know about the Buscopan in case this turns out to be a weak spot for DD in the future.

My ds had that at a slightly younger age and I remember taking him to the surgery where he repeatedly threw up on a Saturday. His tummy was very swollen and tender and I was very worried and like you, never knew about the glands there.

It did get better in the end with light diet and lots of TLC. However, as it was a few weeks after his jab, I thought at the time that it was a post-jab effects. Couldn't prove it though, but every time I hear drs saying, oh it's a virus, it makes me wonder.

Has your dd has had any jabs in the recent weeks?
