Dd1 (12) says her chest is tight/hurts, gp or not ?

She had a temp over the weekend and now has a chesty cough and said her chest feels tight and hurts a bit.

She coughed up some phlegm yesterday which was yellow. I am right in thinking thats normal isn't it ?

Should I take her to the gp today or is it ok to leave for 24 hours and see how she is ?? Her temp isn't as bad now, she is just tired and grumpy.

It probably hurts because she's coughing.

But I'd make an appointment all the same, for later today or tomorrow morning, to make sure she hasn't got a chest infection that needs antibios.

I think you might be right, she said it hurts when she coughs but not when she is just breathing normally.

Better go and join the queue for appointments then.

Probably has a slight chest infection...if she is coughing the phlegm out that's a good sign, but antibiotics would clear it more quickly.

If she still has a temp I would take her to gp. Chest infections usually need a bit of help to shift, (in my experience! - am not a health professional!)

It is just a virus apparently. Dr looked at me like I was wasting his time

I wouldn't mind but I never take dd1 to the docs for anything, I can't even remember the last time she went.

I really HATE docs who look at you like you're wasting their time.

I once asked a doc about the side effects I'd read about of a medicine dd1 was taking. She looked down her nose at me and said haughtily "oh, so you read the drug info do you" Like who did I think I was. (DD had been hallucinating which was not exactly a mild side effect in a toddler)
