when to phone out of hours GP?

ok background first - 7mo PFB (hence the panic)

wednesday - DS off his food and milk, bit grumpy and clingy, throwing up
wed night - up lots with him screaming

thurs - took to dr as worried. dr said he had virus. chest affected, breathing was harder for him than usual. she said keep his temp down and keep offering drinks - little and often and watch out for changes to breathing that look like he's struggling.
thurs night - bit better than wed but still lots of screaming and not drinking oh and throwing up medicine

fri - back to dr to check, same advice. she seemed happy he was not dehydrated as he had 5 wet nappies in 24 hours.
generally a bit happier, drank a little more. wanted to eat in pm but then threw it up
fri night - up every hour or two, lots of screaming, not really drinking

today - not drinking, lots of screaming

i am at the end of my tether. we're doing everything we've been advised to but i don't feel he's getting better.

when do you call the out of hours gp? i think they'll probably say the same but i'm really freaking out.

I would ring NHS-Direct, they will probably tell U 2 bring him in. Dehydration would b my worry.

My GP has always said once my DD stops drinking then to go to childrens A&E (not to panic you) only it could be dehydration.

So am used to it now.

Just ring NHS Direct for their advice and take it from there.

yes phone NHS direct for advice. I'd say fluids more important than food. Is he still getting wet nappies?
From 6 months you can use Vicks or Boots do a chest rub suitable from 3m if he is chesty and breathing is difficult but I'd still call NHS direct for advice on the vomiting. It's been going on for 3 + days now.

If he isnt drinking then I would call NHS direct again, as he could be getting dehydrated.
Even if you get him seen and the advice is still the same as last time, it doesnt mean that it is a wasted visit, as you will have at least had his level of hydration assessed.
It can take a few days to get over viral infections, and the advice that you have been given will be aimed at supporting your DS through it rather than curing the infection, IYSWIM, but if you feel that he is worse than the last time he was seen by a doctor then I wouldnt hesitate in calling for another assessment.

If your worried take him to hospital to get him checked over and to give yourself peace of mind

Our out of hours GP service is really good - give yours a call. It's not such a palaver as going to A&E and will put your mind at rest. I'm sure he'll be fine though.
