Croup - steroids - do they really take 12 hrs to kick in?

I should know really as this is our 5th croupy winter but for once we're home and not in hospital. Yay!

Saw GP this morning and she gave us prednisolone but DS1 is still barking. Do the steroids really take 12 hours to take effect? Am hoping for a slightly better night tonight. Thanks x

They always give me 6 hours for them to work before they send me to A&E. I was told 4-6 hours for them to start working and by 12 hoursw I should be symptomless.
