hi my ds2 had it at 6 months as 3 year old ds1 had it. You can give calpol if she gets a temperature or in pain...we used eurax lotion on the body as it lasts alot longer than calamine and i used eurax lotion on the scalp with cotton wool. They say it is better to get it younger...both mine had it very badly though.

Just need to make sure you keep eye on her due to her age. Both mine got the spots in their mouths and down their throats which caused a few problems and had to go to gp. At least it is out of the way though

she will scratch.i would put cotton mittens on her to prevent it from happening

calamine and aqueous dream is good but also aveeno oatmeal sachets in her bath will help stop the itching.

mad4myboys · 20/11/2009 11:56

hello alypaly! Look at trying to help someone else for once! i found the calamine dries the skin out quite abit and there is a calamine cream which wont dry her out. Also the aveeno alypaly advises will help moisterise.

Oh and plenty of bicarb in the bath

alypaly · 20/11/2009 12:26

Hi Mad 4 i put the calamine and aqueous cream as i have experinced the drying of calamine with my 2 boys. excepti called it calamine and aqueous dream{grin]....hows LO

tamm26 · 20/11/2009 12:42

I was told i could give piriton to stop the scatchy itchy feeling and therefore less chance of leaving marks on the skin ...i can also say i was troubled by my boy being covered in dots cos the skin is so beautiful but it does go and nature clears it .

I found PoxClin really good when DD had chicken pox, that and oat baths.

alypaly · 20/11/2009 12:48

you cant give piriton to under 1 year olds!!!!!!!!!!!

Ewe · 20/11/2009 12:54

I think you can use it in children under one but only under guidance from GP, I was told the same when DD had chicken pox but didn't end up needing to give it.

alypaly · 20/11/2009 12:59

yes thats correct

peachygirl · 20/11/2009 18:17

Thanks everyone , what a flurry of answers.

I haven't seen her scratching and none of her spots are bleeding, wouldn't 10 weeks really be too tiny to have that sort of co-ordination??

She is in long sleeve seepsuits so totally covered, except her head which she was rubbing the other night against the moses basket sheet and calamine helped that. I might look for the cream as it is drying.

We have E45 in the house would that be OK??

If I use aqueous do you mix them or apply one then the other?

better if you get the calamine and aqueous as its the calamine that helps to stop the itching.
It comes ready mixed in a small tub{smile]

DS had chicken pox at 12 weeks. He was covered from head to foot. I was given a prescription for Piriton from the GP. He didn't scratch any off, although I did go back to putting mitts on him for a few nights. He was left with no scarring at all. I used Aveeno on his skin when it was less sore but getting to the dry stage.

paranormalghostygoat · 20/11/2009 22:34

DD had chicken pox at 4 months and was covered in spots. Calamine lotion worked well (looked like a ghost for a week!!) and also aloe vera gel on the really bad scabs. Helps the skin to heal.

DD still has a couple of marks I know are from chicken pox but you wouldn't notice unless you were me or they were pointed out.

Thanks everyone
I got Calamine and aqueous today and it went on a treat.
Also aveeno for using in the coming week.
