I am gettng very worried about dd she has a very floppy head please come and talk to me

DD is 6 months she has always been a bit rubbish with her neck but I am getting bit worried now.

I mentioned it to hv a while ago but then she started holding it up a bit more and I thought no more about it.

For the past couple of days though I have noticed that she finds it hard to hold it up and I just had to take her out of the door bouncer it yesterday as she got very distressed and couldn't lift her head back up.

I have also started noticing that she dosen't even try and push up on her legs or hold her own weight if you stand her up.

She moves about when on the floor but hasn't rolled yet she hates been on her tummy.

She babbles and plays with toys she can also sit alone for few seconds and pulls forward when in her chair.

I am seeing the HV Wednesday but would just like some advice or thoughts on it.

Well, the books, generally say that some babies can take a few extra months to do anything and it is fine.
I am no expert, I just have a almost 7 month DD myself. I would say that if she is holding her head up at all then she shouldn't really have a problem.
Also, think you need to encourage tummy time, when my DD was going through a stage of dislike, I used to lay her tummy to tummy on me. Also, if you put her on the floor lie down with her and make a game of it, pull faces and all that.
And if she can sit alone for a few seconds as you say and move around on the floor, I would have thought she is fine.
I think you just need to relax a little, she has got plenty of time to learn these things and each baby is different.

She does have quite a large double chin though so maybe it is weighing her down. Well that DP's theory anyway.

My DD was like this. But when I pointed it out to my HV she made me go and see the doctor and we were referred to a consultant. We had 2 appointments and blood was taken. The words benign infant dystrophy were mentioned ... and then it all went away. She was slower to crawl/walk than her brothers but apart from that she was fine. It was just a small developmental delay.

But mention it to the HV and see what she says. She should refer you to a GP if you are concerned.

I know a 9month old baby boy, he can't sit up alone, or crawl, and he is quite small. However, he has been checked out and all is fine with him. I would give her another month or so.
My DDs neck gets tired too sometimes and she has only just started to sit up properly.
I am not worried at all though, she is bright and happy, that speaks a lot in baby health.

comewhinewithme - my ds was the same, and when I raised it with HV I went on to have a very similar experience to OrmIrian. My ds had a whole battery of genetic testing, including Fragile X which I was very worried about. All the tests were clear. He is now just over a year old and is now just about the same developmentally as my other DC's - they were both late walkers and crawlers. He has just started to crawl this weekend! He has had two follow ups with the paeds and they have decided to see him again in about four months just to check that he has 'caught up'. I am not too worried now - I think he will be fine.

I do remember the distress and worry when he could hardly hold his head up at six months though. It was terrible. Hopefully you will have the same outcome as me.

I would go to your GP. Our HV was very quick to tel us what was wrong with DD but then nothing.
