She is 2.2 and has a cough no temp just can't settle to sleep we have Tixylix baby syrup in the cupboard. I recall some conniptions about cough medicine but this one has no paracetamol is it worth seeing if it will help the wee love get over to sleep?

It's worth a try - but I think it's been proven that cough medicines don't actually work at all. When we all had whooping cough a while ago, the only thing that helped at all was regular sips of absolutely freezing cold water - a glass of ice topped up with water. I use that for all coughs now and it seems to help. Might be just placebo - but if it works.....!

I would say yes, give it to her. If it's baby syrup, it's probably still OK - they have only stopped you getting your hands on the useful hard core ones like Medised!

Thank you for replying, think she has managed to get over bless her? Will keep it for later.

All cough mixtures - with the exception of glycerol syrups have been discontinued for under 6's. Not just combo's.

if it is the tickly cough mix that contains glycerol then that should be ok. The chesty cough ones are not for the under 6's now.

I've always found that the best and cheapest aid for a cough is to give the child a steam - pop them in the steamy room while you run a bath and the warm air softens the blocked nasal passages so if she has a good noseblow afterwards, it'll reduce the amount of mucus trickling down into her throaty and making her cough.
