When do you go to hospital with croup?

My son had croup a couple of days ago and we managed to calm him down and get him breathing OK again by opening then back door and standing him on the step and then making the bathroom steamy.

I've just been reading on mnet that a lot of children end up in hospital. At what stage should you think about hospital?

If his breathing gets worse.

If he has a blueish tinge to lips/face/fingers.

If your at all concerned really, better to go and be sent home.

Thanks. Think he is over it next time, just concerned in case there is a next time (hopefully not - I hate croup).

also good to go to hosp cos they often get better in the car on the way there - all that cold air or something.

When ds2 was little, he had croup a few times. We did not go to A+E but did go to the GP who gave him steriods with a nebuliser. I would not have been happy to just leave him to get over it.
