I think DS1 has developed a new facial tic, not so sure though

Ds1 (9), developed one last year which involved pursing his lips together. We ignored it and it disappeared after a few months. Coincidentally, he was tested for behavioural problems as he had many symptoms of adhd, but the health team who checked him out didn't believe he had this.

Anyway, since taking eye-q fish oils he has changed dramatically. All of the previous signs has al but disappeared, his school work has improved and so has his temperament.

Last week I noticed he has started clearing his throat almost constantly. He hasn't had a cold, has no runny nose, no cough, nothing. He isn't even aware he is doing it. My head says I should ignore it and hope it goes away, but I am finding it increasingly annoying (my problem, I know). School haven't mentioned anything to me yet, but I'm now thinking is it something I should be taking him to the doctors with? Anybody any experience of this?

hi mrsmills , yes my ds (10) developed a kind of twitch last year , he stretches his mouth open as far as he can & mouths a ha sound , he is not even aware he is doing it & when dh & i comment he looks at us as though he doesn't even know what we are talking about , at one stage he was almost doing this constantly throughout the day but thankfully it seems to have eased off a lot now , ds has been getting bullied so i kind of put it down to stress , i also worried weather i should take him to the doctor but didn't in the end ,x

Thanks biggirlsdontcry, yes I have read that it can be a symptom of stress. As far as I know, DS isn't under any stress, he's not being bullied, I do know that. Sorry to hear that your ds has been through bullying.

He has also had the wide mouth thing which just looked really odd. tThat disappeared too, and like your ds, he wasn't even aware he was doing it which was the worrying part!

i started a thread about my ds a few months ago & was amazed by how common tics & twitches seems to be among this age group & in most cases it was with boys , we just tried to make ds aware of what he was doing & as he became more aware the twitch lessened iykwim , now i haven't noticed him doing it in a few weeks , fingers crossed it has stopped although the bullying is still on going unfortunately
but that's a whole other issue , x

My son is 5 and has just started with what I think is his 3rd tic. His first was frequent blinking when he was about 3 which led to us taking him for his eyes testing but there was nothing wrong with his eye sight. About 3 months ago he started to shrug his shoulders frequently and when we asked him about it he said he couldn't stop it even when he tried it just happened. Just this week he has started with heavy / noisy breathing. It is not all the time but more frequent some times than others. It sounds like he has just been running and is out of breath, like exaggerated breaths. I don't know wether I need to see the doc or just to ignore.
