She failed her sight test and now has to wait for a referral to go for further test to the hospital.

Anyone been through this? What happends next?

I assume they will do a more thorough sight test. You could make her an optitians appointment while you are waiting to get a hospital referal.

Yes this happened to ds1. He was referred to the eye unit at the hospital where they diagnosed a lazy eye. He had to wear a patch on one eye for about 10 months. He wears glasses now - but he had much better eyesight than me!

Don't worry, they'll send you an appointment. It may mean your dd has to wear glasses, but they do have some quite funky ones these days. My ds had never encountered any 'glasses' related problems at school - other than constantly breaking them!

It actually might not mean anything - DS failed his sight test, and we took him to the opticians, who tested his eyes, and said that because the child has to cover the other eye themselves, instead of it being patched, sometimes they press hard and then when they let go, everything is blurry (like if you rub your eye and then look out of it), and so it gives the impression that there sight isn't very good, when actually they've just not waited long enough to test the other eye.

My DS was referred to the eye clinic at our local health centre. HTey monitored him for about a year as he was very close to needing glasses but was eventually signed off as his eyes had improved on their own.
