Pediatrician has suggested DD is v low in Iron after examining her

she recommended a supplement (minadex I think) which after reading the label sounded horrendous and contained something I think DD is allergic to. I do give her floradix but I think it is the fruity one and doesn't contain Iron that I can see on the label.

Can anyone recommend a good supplement high in Iron?

Thanks x

I took Spatone for anaemia in pregnancy, worked a treat. You mix it in with orange juice to drink, tastes fine and no horrid side effects. You can get it from Boots etc.

defineme · 05/10/2009 21:14

I would go to Boots - they have a trained vitamin advisor in most branches - don't ask the pharmacist ime they can be a bit lacking!

Have you had advice on her diet as well as supplements?

Jujubean77 · 05/10/2009 22:04

No no real advise about diet but I will ask. Thanks for the help guys x

did she run bloodtests? just sounds a bit vague otherwise - shouldn't she be getting prescription iron tablets if she's that low in iron? hope you get a good supplement that helps your dd - but don't be afraid to go back to gp or phone up paediatrician to chase up what supplements could be prescribed instead

Jujubean77 · 05/10/2009 22:16

Sorry I haven't explained it fully. She was examining/ treating her for something else and said "If I were to run blood tests I am sure they would come out as low in iron" then we talked about supplements. If I wanted to get her tested I could bring her back in but bloods are so awful I hoped to overcome it this way.

She is v pale and has an aversion to red meat and most foods

What's wrong with Minadex? My two take it regularly with no problems.

Jujubean77 · 05/10/2009 22:23

nothing wrong with it, but it contains additives and ingredients my daughter is allergic to

It IS a funny orange colour. It's a great source of iron though.

I did a trawl through the various foods that would supply enough for vaguely veggie kids and it was really hard if not impossible to make up the amounts needed without being very vigilant as far as I could see. Hope you find aan alternative.

Jujubean77 · 05/10/2009 22:29

I know so true! We really have no choice but a supplement - no sardines going on in her eating habits lol..thanks though
