How does one treat thrush in 6 year old girl?

Help. I am struggling with DDs recurring UTI. And it's just been brought to my attention that the ABs could cause thrush and she might have thrush and not the return of an infection I am wondering how to treat possible thrush in a child (girl).

I know canesten sells a pill but presumably it is adult strength and not suitable for a 6 year old.

dd(5) had canesten 1% cream prescribed for thrush although you can buy it over the counter too.

Dunno what UTI or AB means but I had a similar problem when I was little (for years ) and the solutions we found were:

Never use soap/bubble bath/shampoo etc. in the bath. Set me off something chronic (still does today - I now only ever have showers).

Make sure she is wiping herself front to back. Sounds stupid but I was very when I realised I'd been doing it wrong and possibly been causing myself lots of pain.

Also, consult a Dr. Unfortunately when I was affected, there was a huge fuss about Drs taking children away from families under the pretext of abuse and my parents were too scared to consult a Dr....

UTI = urinary tract infection
AB = antibiotics

Have been to the doctor. Am just trying to also gather information here so I can show up at the GP relatively well informed.

I've been given tablets as a preventive measure for thrush, when I was on pretty heavy doses of AB's. IIRC its called fluconozole - its the active ingredient in the canesten pills but you can get it prescribed. I think its available in pediatric dose.
Also live yogurts (actimel type drinks etc.) can help because thrush can start in the intestines and they can help prevent it - will also help with any upset stomach caused by antibiotics.
Other than that as others have said, wipe from front to back, don't use perfumed bath products, wear loose cotton underwear.
If she's been having UTIs it may be that her skin has become sore from passing urine, in which case nappy rash cream of some sort may help. Its best not to use thrush treatment if thrush isn't actually present, because I think it can make the yeast resistant. HTH and that she's feeling better soon

you should see the doc for a 6 year old as there can be underlying causes.if it external you can try a bit of clotrimazole cream but dont use the capsule as its too strong for her. Doc can give her nystan solution if she has it. What symptoms has she got?
