Best soap powder to use for infant eczema

My DS is just over 7 months and has eczema (despite BF!). ANyone got any tips on the best soap powder tp use?

Hi, I agree with Surcare, my DS diagnosed with eczema aged 3 weeks and we have used this ever since. He hasn't had a "reaction" to it and it is definately worth the money, I would say however, that eczema is a very individual problem and what suits my DS may not suit yours so it may be trial and error for the first wee while.

Make sure you get emollient cream and bath additive on prescription. Hope your DS gets better soon and stays "clear"!

Filetti is v. good. Recommended by a dermatologist. But pricey. Little goes a lojng way though. sainsburys sell it.

Surcare... and no conditioner.

How about no soap powder but eco balls instead?

Thanks, have been thinking about eco balls or soap nuts. Have you use them Lio and if so how effective did you find them.

I'm also thinking about buying a bath ball to neutralise the chlorine in the bath water. If anyone has any experience of them I'd love to hear what you think.

Leonie - thanks, can't use oilatum as it makes him worse but is ok for my DD. Use an emolient that we got on prescription which seems to be ok but he has patches at the backs of his knees which are constantly angry and sore. Feel very sorry for him because they must irritate him.

i use laundry gloop for ds's (although it won't shift heavy grass stains ) is the only thing i've found they can tolerate (i also chuck in a set of cheapy drier balls from poundland to agitate the clothes better).

I have used eco balls and thought they were OK but honestly not as effective as detergent. I think they would be fine if I didn't have children! I don't tend to get so much mud and food on my own clothes...

So, in summary, get some if you don't mind your baby's clothes being a bit less clean than you'd like.

"Lard stuff" is emulsifying ointment, very cheap and the most moisturising stuff you can find but takes ages to sink in.
My middles son has eczema we are ok with fairy clothes washing liquid but absolutely no bubbles,soaps, shampoos or handwashes. We use diprobase instead in the bath and emollients on his skin afterwards.
We just have to be really persitant every morning and night and treat any raised areas immediately with a 1% hydrocortisone.

Play sand is the other thing which breaks him out.

hi there my 17 month old dd has had eczema since she was born but it is slowly clearing up a bit.

i use fairy non bio to wash all our clothes as i suffer with it too.

i bath her with oilatum junior bath addative that i get off the doctor free.

i know it is hard because you feel useless when they are itching and making themselves bleed with it. but it will get better.

GP recommended Fairy Non Bio and it's really helped. We also get Aveeno cream and oil on prescription which are really good.
