Panicking a bit. One side of DS face seems less responsive....

DS is 18 months.
He's had a temperature all day. He looked 'not quite right' earlier but I couldnt put my finger on why.
He's just woken up from a long nap and I can see a lot more clearly now that his right eye is looking a bit droopy and when he smiles the right side of his mouth doesnt lift as much.
That side of his face looks red and his ear is red too.

Feel quite panicky that something is wrong with him!
Have called Docs and they say to take him in at 4.30pm so have to wait an hour.

DS doesnt seem VERY unwell, just slightly under the weather. Its just his face thats really worrying me.

Anyone heard of this? What could it be??
DH saying not to panic and that an infection or teething could cause swelling so he cant move the swollen side as much....

You're doing the right thing taking him to the GP - try not to panic, it's most likely nothing, hopefully by the time you get to the GP it will already have subsided.

Yes I think all is ok thank god.

It had already nearly subsided by the time I got to the docs (you were right!). The doctor thinks because of this that it was swelling that caused him to be unable to move that side of the face as much as the other. The swelling is either a virus or his teeth!
If it was anything more serious then it wouldnt have subsided so quickly.

If it happens again though he said to bring him straight back and he will refer him for neurological tests.
He did say he would refer him now if I wanted him to, but that he didnt think it was necessary himself at the moment so I agreed to wait and see.

DS had a Bells Palsy aged 4 and it developed quite quickly over 1 day (Nursery noticed he wasn't blinking with both eyes before lunch and by mid afternoon he had a complete palsy).

Not saying this to frighten you, but to reassure you that if it resolved then your GP was almost certainly correct re teeth etc.
