Agggggggghhhhhhhhhhh.

Found eggs in DD's hair last night. She's never had them before. We used Lyclear and then wet combed the hair. Got 7 things out, think they were eggs though. Nothing looked to be alive, does that mean I've missed something? She's gone to school in plaits today but still felt itchy. Would she still be itchy even if everything has gone or is that a sign there are still creepies?

I've been and got Tea Tree conditioner today so will use that and the nitty gritty comb. Also bought Hedrin and if I find anything tonight I'll use that. It says that it has to stay on her hair for 8 hours, do I need to wrap her (long) hair up in a towel overnight. She's going to go mad if I do. Its new Hedrin gel rather than lotion so I'm hoping it won't be as wet?

She can still be itchy even if everything is gone - the itch is caused by a reaction to the bites, so they will need to go before she stops itching.

Conditioner and a nitty gritty are the dog's cojones - I comb my DDs' hair once a week with that, and we've bee nit-free for 18 months (touch wood, fingers crossed etc).

With hedrin, can you spread an old towel over her pillow rather than wrapping her hair in it? It would be more comfortable for her.

My dd1 (5) had never had lice before she started at school last year and I have just finished treating the 3rd lot in the past 12 months!! Nightmare.

Hedrin is great, but second the conditioner and combing - we always do it in front of a DVD so she doesn't mind sitting still for the time it takes to do it properly. Probably worth investing in some hairdressing types clips if she has long hair, so that you can segment it all and go through it bit by bit, otherwise it's really easy to miss stuff.

I also find that eggs are easier to see on dry hair. You can't use the combs on dry hair but if you find an egg, you can slide it off the hair with your nails.

Probably worth checking yourselves and any other children you have. The first outbreak, dd1 had, I discovered that I also had them, as did dd2. Not nice!!

Thanks, I've checked me and DH. Thankfully we seemed OK, I Lycleared myself as well though just to make sure.

Just used the nitty gritty and found one louse and about 20 little dark brown spots. I rinsed the comb off in a jug of water between each comb andthey were all floating in the water. Hedrin tonight.

Can I join in please? Is there a limit on how often you can use stuff like head start? i'm doing the combing and ive used head start twice but my dd seems to still have one or two live lice. what am i doing wrong?

i dont believe any of the shop brought stuff works have tried them and still found live lice the next few days after ,i always use the conditioner and comb method every few days for 2 weeks

newgirl, are you doing the rest of the family too? It could that you have them and are giving them back to her.....

you need to inform the school as others will have it and reinfection could start its vicious cycle. There is nothing dirty about admitting to the school that your child has nits. But you really should let them know as a matter of etiquette
