my daughters blood test showed too many white blood cells??

have to back to talk to doc..but within 4 weeks..which im thinking cant be tooo serious.
but what could too many white blood cells indicate??

I think it can indicate that your DD has recently had some sort of virus or infection. So if that's the reason then 4 weeks later the results should be fine.

This can often happen when a child is fighting off an infection - has she has anything recently or been around other cildren - my daughter had a raised white blood count when all her friends had chicken pox.

Sorry - that should have read 'been around other children who have had infections?'

ds had this but it was within the level of expectation as he had an ear infection at the time

elevated WBC can be indicative of fighting a bacterial infection.dont assume the worst,wait for follow up results

The normal explanation is that they are fighting or just getting over an infection or potential infection (which is when the body is supposed to manufacture loads of white blood cells). So waiting a few weeks and retesting should then show that white blood cell counts have returned to normal levels. If that doesn't happen then it may be something more serious and further investigation would be warranted.

This was the second one she had had, and it has obviously showed up again....(well i presume thats what there gonna say to me...).

How could she have had an infection both times??? with a gap of about 6 months between tests!?

The appointment is in a few weeks time...so sitting here thinking about it!!
