5 month old with streaks of bloody mucous in stool - any ideas?

My DD2 is 5.5 months old and is bottle fed. She is in good health, drinking well, chirpy, but this afternoon has had three quite loose stools and the last one has streaks of bloody mucous in it. I'm waiting for a call back from NHS Direct but in the meantime has anyone got any ideas? She's not weaned BTW.

Wen had this with DS2 last week (7m) but it was complicated by the fact that he has recently had a hernia operation.

Is the blood bright red? If so it is likely to be from his back passage rather than bowel. It is most likely constipation. We were advised to keep the nappy and show the GP, which we did, and in the absence of any other symptoms (vomiting, temperature, pain, malaise), we were told that there was nothing to worry about. If it happens more than once they refer for tests. HTH.

Thanks for that. I have kept the nappy.

NHS Direct said the same thing - there's no temperature, she's feeding / sleeping fine so it might just be a one off. Fingers crossed there's no more. Hope your DS is on the mend.
