8 month old - ear infection? swine flu? just a bug?

My 8 month old was sick (projectile) last night after his milk, and was unsettled in the evening. This morning his nappy was full to bursting with very soft yellow poo and then after his milk he immediately did a very watery diarrhoea. He's also shaking his head a lot but maybe just because it's fun, not because it hurts...

His temp is normal, but he's very very grizzly. Are vomiting/diarrhoea ever linked to ear infections (he's been snotty for about a week, as have I, and a bit sore throaty (me, but presumably also him))?

Any ideas gratefully received. Presume lack of temperature = not swine flu.

D&V can be related to cold symptoms, it's not that unusual. The mucous membranes of the nose and the bum are made of the same stuff, sometimes everything leaks. If he has had a tummy upset or been sick, avoid giving too much milk - it can irritate the stomach, avoid solid food and stick to clear fluids (very dilute fruit juice or water) for twelve hours and it should knock it on the head. The more fluid you can get into him the better.
