raised hot patches of skin??? what is it before I start crying.

Okay, I'm not crying but dd 2 years old has big raised hot patch of skin behind her arm the size of big apple and another one above her bum the size of clementine. And they are both quite hot to touch. Anybody know what it is? Called the doctor and he will call back in about 3 hours.

Is it hives? My 2 year old had them last month, they came from nowhere, where the size of a dinner plate in some places, were very hot, very itchy. They came and went over a period of days then went away.

Sounds like it could be hives -- if in various places over the body then it could be caused by a food allergy. Has she eaten anything different today?

How is she in herself?

Is she eating and drinking?

Has she got a temp?

Has she brushed up against something today or worn clothing that has rubbed?

Hives does sound likely.

oh...maybe. She had her first cashew nuts this morning and that might have caused it..??

she is eating and drinking and no temperature and behaving completely normal. It must be cashew nuts... does that mean she is allergic to all nuts?

Not necessarily but you need to go and see the gp.

Get some piriton into her now!

Have allergic DD hives can be painful!

Piriton will calm it down immediately and is safe from 1 year old. You get it over the counter at chemist, pharmacist will be able to diagnose and quicker and kinder than waiting 3 hrs for gp!

hmmmm. could this get worse than few raised patches of skin....?? like breathing condition if I don't go see someone now??

How is she?

I read recently that most common cause of hives is viral. So DD had it because there was a virus going round that caused people to break out in hives. Apparently in most cases they have no idea of the cause.

ehmmm well pharmacist wouldn't prescribe anything and told me to go to gp first. Her hive went away but new one came on her legs. Her legs were covered in them when she woke up from her nap and then now it seems to be going away again... very strange. We will be going to the doctor tomorrow morning and I took pictures of it anyway so I'll let you all know what it is!! or he won't know...

Check out the allergy threads for any further info if it does turn out to be an allergic reaction. Could either be allergic (likely if today was 1st taste of cashew nuts) or a viral reaction.

That's exactly what hives do, they appear suddenly then go away and reappear somewhere else

she is still getting new patches but old ones are going away. We went to GP today and we are given antihistamin and also need to go for allergy test. Thank you for all your support.
