nosebleeds - anyone else's DCs have them frequently?

My dd started getting nosebleeds at 5mo. Took her to GP, had to ask to be referred to pediatric ENT. Their diagnosis - 'she's a bit crusty, isn't she?' (she was).

Also took her to ENT at 20mo.

Now at 22mo she has nosebleeds almost daily. Smallest knock and it's off - and I mean knock as in she falls over, doesn't hit her nose but the jerk to her body sets it off.

My dh thinks I should take her to docs again, but I don't see the point. They never last long so there's no clotting problem, she's just got sensitive capillaries. And children get nosebleeds all the time - don't they??? Also, GPs surgery is probably full of people with swine flu type bugs, so I want to avoid going.

Does anyone else have frequent nosebleeds in their DCs? ENT consultant said it was rare in one so young but not unheard of.

dd2 used to get tehm all the time, especially at night, she would wake up looking like she had been attacked

the gp at the time said it was quite common as hte veins were so tiny and if it stayed a problem as she got older they would cauterise the veins in her nose ( i think)

she is 12 now and gets them v rarely

Thanks, that's what I thought. They are alarming, though! Esp when you're going round Ikea and she also has a bump on her head - it looks like I've been beating her!

All 3 of mine. I had my nose cauterized when I was 5 because of nosebleeds, but I didn;t want to do this with ds1 (severely autistic so any operation is a big deal) so left it and he gets far fewer now (he's 10). The others are still young, but nosebleeds seem to be confined to times when they're getting colds so not a huge deal. So I've sort of left the other 2 as well. If they get really bad I give some homeopathic phosphorus (which I know will set some poster's teeth on edge but seems to work for us and beats a GA hands down in my book).

ds got them frequently. once he'd have one he'd have a series of them for a week or so.

it's tailed off now, i can't remember that last time he had one. i don't know if it is age (he is 5) but them tailing off also coincided with my homeopath recommending New Era tissue salt Number 4 Ferr Phos. Ds took the little pills twice a day for a few weeks and it seems to have done the trick. meant to strengthen the capillaries. i know lots of people think it is hokum, but worked for us.

Oh despite my op at 5 I still get the occasional nosebleed as well!

Like saintly, I got a lot of nosebleeds, for almost any reason at all as a child, and had my nose cauterised when I was 7. They got less frequent as I got older, and now I only get them rarely. They now tend to be bought on by colds, altitude, pressure and pregnancy. The doctor did once give me a reason why nosebleeds were common in premature babies (I was 7 weeks early), but I can't remember it.
