If you press you thumb hard on teh rash is the rash gone (momentarily) where you pressed? Easier to see than a glass IME - but it is only transient.

JudyBlume1019 · 01/07/2009 22:07

Don't want to give you false reassurANCE, BUT if there's nothing elae wrong with her, it've unlikey to be rash.

hereidrawtheline · 01/07/2009 22:07

oh god this has happened to DS before it makes you feel sick doesnt it. You wont feel better til she's seen by a doctor.

JudyBlume1019 · 01/07/2009 22:08

yes Fab, I know it is, but I find it confusing, and find it much much easier to make a rash blanch with my fingers.

JudyBlume1019 · 01/07/2009 22:08

sory, mean serious, not rash! duh!

hereidrawtheline · 01/07/2009 22:08

I do as well. I dont get the glass thing at all.

DS always gets heat rash, especially around the line of his pants.

PacificDogwood · 01/07/2009 22:10

Yes, glass test is rubbish, the area is too large and LOTS of rashes do not blanch completely.
Also, meningitis/meningococcal septicaemia you have a VERY UNWELL CHILD on your hands. The typical rash is v dark red/purple and does not pale when pressed. If your daughter looks at you in a slightly bemused manner whilst you are pressing glasses on her then she is probably ok.
Bear also in mind that meningitis is actually not v common - the average GP will see one case in a working life.
In the current weather a heat rash is much more likely.

Obviously if you are at all worried, you must get her checked out.
Hope she is ok.

IkeaHighchair · 01/07/2009 22:10

I agree.

DD had it I "knew" it wasn't serious because she wasn't at all ill. I still felt very sick.

She went straight to Drs who felt it wasn't Meningitis but sent us home with his direct dial number so she could be fast-tracked to childrens ward if it developed. He was still very concerned that he rang us 2 hrs after I saw him just to check.

If it is not fading it needs checking....but most of the time it isn't meningitis.

Disenchanted3 · 01/07/2009 22:13

really crap photo, flash was too bright to catch it but can see at the sides of belly?

Looks like a heat rash pet.

BexieID · 01/07/2009 22:15

We had this with Tom once and took him to local hospital, not A&E, and they said it wasn't meningitis. I think they said it was due to a viral infection maybe? It was a couple of years ago, so can't actually remember. Toms rash was on his back, chest and tummy.

IkeaHighchair · 01/07/2009 22:16

The rash doesn't look dark enough. The individual spots are usually crimson/maroon I think. And if it is definately disappearing then sounds fine.

Keep a close eye though overnight

IkeaHighchair · 01/07/2009 22:16

Heat rash is normally very slightly raised too. Septicaemia rash is completely flat.

misdee · 01/07/2009 22:23

looks like heat rash/eczema to me

hereidrawtheline · 01/07/2009 22:32

Wanted to just say, now that the danger is passed, your DD has such a beautiful little baby body and lovely wrist wrinkles and all the gorgeous things about a baby. Give her a kiss! She looks scrumptious. x

pmsl yappy, he'll love that

The rash went redder last night but cause she got hot during the night, it was actually easier to see it dissapear because the contrast was greater,

shes definatly not ill, one happy little bunny

We all have brown eyes (the DSs and me have very dark, and DH has med brown with some green) so totally unexpected.
