Very unsure what happens next with chicken pox. ds1 is very poorley

he is almost 3 and had 1 spot last thursday. Friday had more, more again sat, even more sunday and thought that was it but today there are a few on his hands/arms/legs. How long do they carry on? Had to go to doc sunday am as he has them around his eyes and in his mouth and wasnt drinking. Is now eating and drinking better but the nights are hell. Not sleeping at all. Have anti his, calamine, eurax, calpol. Tonight did bicarb bath, covered in eurax cream plus the lotion on his scalp, calpol etc. At the moment the bigger ones are sort of pus type filled? Like they need to pop? How long do they take to scab? Do they leak?? He is scratching so much i think he is scratching the tops off? IF they have scabs and he scratches scab off does that make him contagious again?? Also if they have it badly does that mean it takes longer to recover? Im very inexperience in this!! Dreading ds2 (7 months) getting it

aww poor him. it sounds like he has hit the peak though and it ought to start getting better from now on.

i know it's difficult, but try not to let him scratch too much because you don't want them to scar.

they will blister and be fluid filled, that's normal. they then kind of dry out and scab. it shouldn't be long now before his all start scabbing over and then you're on the home run

boots used to do a calamine and glycerin cream which we found a lot better than regular calamine lotion because it was nice and thick and covered well and stayed on

I have a lot of sympathy. dd is in the throes of it at the moment. Spots came last Monday. She has a few on her hands and arms which aren't scabbed over yet. The ones on her face and body are scabby. She's also been quite unwell - refusing to drink on Friday and Saturday. I made ice lollies from juice and squash and she had those which at least meant she was getting some fluid.

Try some raw oats in a sock and stick it in the bath - we found that worked much better than bicarb of soda. Have you got the Eurax cream or the lotion? We found the cream was better.

I don't think that scratching the tops off would make him infectious again - scabbing over is a good sign. One other thing - when he's feeling better, keep him out of the sun until the spots are better, as sunlight won't help the healing process.

yes tried piriton aswell as benadryl neither seem to help. Have eurax cream aswell as lotion

does he still have a temp and does he seem unwell as itchy. You do need to be aware that they can get infections in the spots that need antibiotics.

My dd2 had C Pox very very badly and was very poorly - turned out she had an ear infection at the same time!

well he ws checked over at docs sunday as his lips were abit swollen and they checked him over and said there wasnt any other infection....but yes he is unwell, not just itchy. Have never seen him this unwell. He isnt as bad in the day though..
