Strange temperature thing round the necks of my dss - any ideas

Evening,

Just after some suggestions about a mysterious illness that seems to have struck my boys.

Last week DS2 had a temperature and was v. weepy (hes 3) then was okay.

On Saturday night DS1 (7) was sick through the night, sickly yesterday but okay this morning.

Tonight both of them have come down with a temperature, complaining of feeling cold, and both of them are red hot around their neck/gland area. Both off their food.

No rash, no more being sick just two miserable little boys who are now sweating in bed but fast asleep.

Any similar experiences?

Well....yes but we've had the dreaded lurgy so....

Sounds like they could have a viral illness. May I suggest you call NHS direct and monitor their temperatures closely. Anything over 39 that you cannot reduce with ibuprofen or paracetamol within an hour, should be reported to the docs.

The youngest seems quite cool but I will check on DS2 again, he was soaking the last time DH went up to see him.

Or rather DS1, I do get this whole DS thing mixed up ....

The back of the neck is a much more reliable indicator of temperature than the forehead so it's not unusual for them to feel hot there and they are very prone to sweat rashes too so don't be too worried.

DS has been vomming madly the last couple of days and has also had (yet another) virus. I think he is collecting one each time DD goes to nursery .

You will probably find though, once you go 24 hours after the last vomit, they'll start to recover, but the unwillingness to eat may last up to ten days - it's not unusual. Offer toast with sugar, butter and cinnamon on (no seriously) - it gets eaten in our house even when the kids are feeling really rough.
