dreading dd's visit to dentist today for extraction of a baby tooth

She has this tooth that is now about 90 degrees to her gum, and is being squeezed by her big top fornt tooth coming down. Has caused pain over weekend.

Every one of her milk teeth has caused pain and distress. She is 7.

This one isn't very loose, but i guessit will have to come out. Dentist is not very child friendly, and after the last tooth she had to have pulled she is really scared. last time they used gel, which was on her gum for about 2 seconds. I am thinking an injection may be invloved this time.

I have said she just has to be brave.

but i feel horrible, cos i know she's scared.

My DD had to have a milk tooth out when she was 6. Thankfully the dentist was very child friendly though. I hope you find it reassuring to know that DD's just popped out pretty much and didn't need industrial strength pliars like I was imagining.

I know exactly how you feel, and I must admit I did cry in the dentists .

can you not change dentist? (maybe not this time but for the future?)

I live in a tiny town in Devon with one nhs dentist, and have now looked into joining another in another tiny town, who have some nhs spaces for kids only.

They would be happy to see her, but only have the child specialist in on fridays .

have given lots of calpol to dd who says tooth is easing a bit.

You try to think about how much worse things can be for kids, but it's hard to say to dd, well at least your leg isn't falling off! oh, i did say that, oops

My dd had one taken out around the same age. She was upset a bit, but who wouldn't be, but then she got over it very quickly.

I kept her out of school for the afternoon so she could lie on the sofa and get over the pain, but tbh she just enjoyed watching dvds with me and had a great time being at home with mum.

She's been back to the dentists since and has no fears or concerns about it all.

It came out quite easily as it happens, so wasn't as traumatic as I'd pictured it. And kids do seem to get over things much more quickly than us adults do.

Well it ws as bad as I thought. Dentidt bloody useless, no bedside manner at all, but this I expected. Just didn't make it any easier for dd.

Dentist put some numbing gel on, which seemed to do nothing, tried, but dd nearly flew out the chair. DD hysterical, dentist saying 'ph comeon it doesn't hurt' then she tried to give dd an injection which had dd scream the place down.

I then had to literally 'talk' the dentist thru the optons, over dd's wailing, and i had to then tell dd that it had to come out, and hold her down.

By this time she was wimpering, and prob in a state of shock.

We ain't going back! This woman has had lots of complaints made against her, but nothing happens.

I'm so sorry to hear it didn't go so well for you. Our dentist looks like the vet out of the league of gentlemen, but he's absolutely lovely with the kids.

Is there no one else you can go to?

I think it's appalling if this woman has had lots of complaints lodged against her but is still practising. It seems totally unfair.

Your poor DD. I hope she has better luck next time you visit the dentist and most of all I hope it's not this awful woman she has to see.

Don't worry, I am never going back there with dd. I have found another place that will take her, about 20 mins from my little town.

Unfortunately I have to go back there next week for a filling tho!!
