any had experience of toddler diarrhoea. Is it just a cop out by the GP? Advice please!

Hi.

My 2 year old has had runny poos for months now. The GP has said that it is most likely to toddler diarrhoea.

has anyone's DCs had this diagnosis and it turn out to be something else?

Or did they have it and grow out of it?

Any advice/experiences gratefully received

My GP said this about ds1 (now 3yo) when he was about 18mo. He did 6+ really stinky and liquid poos a day.
Another MNer suggested it might be dairy intolerance instead (my GP doesn't believe in such things ). I tried cutting out dairy and almost immediately his poo was better - if not perfect - and only once or twice a day.

When I tried him back on dairy stuff, especially chesse, his poo would revert to the really nasty stuff.

He's growing out of it now, but still reacts badly to cheese.

it's very real. DS had it and it was horrible! We were lucky and he's nearly grown out of it now (he is 17m) and always continued to grow well and be perfectly happy, just with runny poos no matter what he ate.

My ds1's TD was also dairy intolerance. TBH I would always keep a food/poo diary to see if there was a trigger before just writing it off as TD.

My DS had it at around 10m onwards. No foods made a difference for him and he lost alot of weight. He was also in and out of hosp at this time with other illnesses so I don't know whether the weight loss was the TD or the generall ill health. We basically quarentined him in the end and this seemed to clear everything up.

thank you so much for the responses. I think I will do a dairy cutout for a week to see if it helps, then a wheat one as I am very intolerant.

The GP made me feel a bit bad about doing it as if I was being a bit faddish iyswim.
