Looks Iike impetigo to me.

parachutes · 20/05/2009 18:41

Hi candyfluff, I'm sorry but I don't know what it is, have you spoken again to the GP?

I couldn't pass without saying that your children are gorgeous!

CrushWithEyeliner · 20/05/2009 18:41

why fucidein? Did he diagnose impetigo?

It looks like classic inflamed excema to me - very much like DDs. can you take him to a dermatologist?

CrushWithEyeliner · 20/05/2009 18:42

it is only impetigo if weeping and then crusting - does not look like impetigo to me at all.

BelleDuJour24 · 20/05/2009 18:44

ok, it was just what I thought...you are probably right, esp if the fucidin doesn't work.

candyfluff · 20/05/2009 18:44

no weeping no crusting
gp didnt know what it was so gave this to try and said to bring him back if not working so will try to get him seen tomorrow.

thankyou parachutes
maybe its ringworm?

Has it spread ? Is is weeping or just reddish ? Does it hurt him ? The heat implies an infection, doesn't it?
Some ideas:

  1. Slapped Cheek (I think it's viral?)
  2. Impetigo if it spreading quite quickly and skin is broken
CrushWithEyeliner · 20/05/2009 18:48

Fucidin is very strong stuff it may be irritating him more.

candyfluff · 20/05/2009 18:54

it just looks red and shiney ,it doesnt help that before you can get to him with a tissue for his snotty nose he wipes it up his face on the sore bit.

candyfluff · 20/05/2009 18:56

its not spread and he has it a little under his chin?
my other kids never had anything like it
before i took him to the gp last week i tried savlon and vaseline

CrushWithEyeliner · 20/05/2009 18:57

it looks like excema to me

candyfluff · 20/05/2009 19:00

what do they give for excema?

OP posts:
popsycal · 20/05/2009 19:04

baby eczema

not a doc tho
but ds2 and 3 hadhave iit

popsycal · 20/05/2009 19:04

aqueous cream
ask pharmicist

DoThisDoThat · 20/05/2009 19:04

Doesn't look like impetigo. They would give a hydrocortisone cream for eczema but am not not sure what strength. Take him back to docs. Have you googled ringworm?

candyfluff · 20/05/2009 19:11

i have googled it
could be ?
will let you all know what gp says tomorrow

Excema doesn't just disappear - it's a condition you may have to treat over many years.

smudgethepuppydog · 21/05/2009 07:38

If it is ringworm and it's been treated with fucidin it will have aggrevated it. My DD was treated for what the GP thought was eczema but was in fact ringworm. The steroid creams she was given for eczema 'fed' the ringworm and the condition worsened. A skin scrap was finally done and ringworm was diagnosed, the correct cream then took weeks to make the rash disappear.

bruffin · 21/05/2009 09:48

Eczema does just appear. DS had it on his cheeks and forehead when he was teething and he has never had it since.

candyfluff · 21/05/2009 11:51

ok im back from the gp
she has given us co amoxiclav oral anti biotics for a skin infection ?
not impetigo not ringworm and not excema
got to go back if its not clearing up
got to stop using the cream
