last friday and saturday, dd 2.9 kept periodically shrieking and crying, saying her head/ear hurt. we took her to the dr who said he couldnt really see anything but it might be an ear infection. he said carry on with paracetamol and gave me a prescription for amoxycillin, to be taken only if she got a temp or pus came out, indicating burst ear drum.yesterday, she started with a cold and today i have had to collect her with a temp of 39.
i have given her paracetamol, she is snotty and tired but not too unlike her usual self. should i give her the antibiotics, or go back to the dr, or just leave her to sleep it off tonight?

any advice welcomed!thanks.

It's a personal choice with antibiotics, dependent on your experiences and those of people around you. Because anti biotics have contributed to so many problems (gut flora imbalances, candida, even autism) in my experience I try to hold off unless it's something serious. Obviously a burst eardrum or very painful ear infection is serious, but if dd is just bit grumpy you could postpone until tomorrow. Alternative remedies are colloidal silver and manuka honey, both of which have antibiotic properties without the side effects. Good luck!

thanks for replying, emlitt. i agree, i'd prefer her not to have them unless it's something nasty and she hasnt mentioned the dodgy ear for a couple of days. i think its all associated with her cold, but her temp has gone up to 40
