DD(9) complaining of chest pains -any ideas what it could be?

This has happened once or twice before.

She says its a pain around her sternum area. Started after school today. Its not just when she breathes in or out, or just when she moves.

She hasn't had any injury that could have caused it. No recent illness.

Shes crying and saying she can't get to sleep because of it (although she did manage her swimming lesson earlier despite saying she had some pain beforehand -I thought the pain was a ploy to get out of swimming TBH)

Any ideas anyone? Anyones DC had something similar?

Reflux?

My DD got this, it was always worse at bedtime, and was eventually diagnosed with reflux. She takes Omeprazole when necessary. In her case it's stress-related - she got it loads before an operation and before moving up to secondary school but has barely had it for the past 8 months.

Thanks for replying castille -thats interesting that its stress related as DD is a bit of a sensitive soul who is prone to worrying about things (although shes denying being worried about anything at the moment)

Seems you may be right castille.

I took DD to the docs this morning as it was still painful (but not as bad) -he said either reflux or an allergy to a particular but uncommon pollen.

We have to do some detective work and keep an eye on things.

Did the doctor give you any treatment to try?

No, no treatment.

If/when it happens again to give her milk to see if that eases it (Gaviscon also an option) but also to monitor for signs of wheeziness (which could indicate an allergy).

Milk doesn't seem to help my DD, maybe because in her case it's not really food/digestion related.

Is she feeling better now?

Yes, I think just going to the doctors made her feel better IYSWIM.

Like I said before she is a born worrier so there is bound to be something bothering her which may have brought this on.

I'll keep an eye on it and see if I can link it to stress/particular food consumption/allergies etc
