Help!!!, PLEASE tell me i havent permanently damaged my daughter!

I used anormal cotton bud this morning to clean dd's ears out, we normally buy the ones with a 'stopper' o so you cant go very far in, but as i ALWAYS only clear what you can see i didnt bother taking them back..but this morning when i was doing them, dd moved and then screamed , it hadnt gone in far as i could still see the majority of the bud, but it must have prodded her ear as it then bled, not much a few drops maybe, wiped it away then got wet tissue to wipe see if there was more but it stopped almost as soon as it started ..BUT..it must have caught/burst something????, on way to school she said it hurt a bit but i 'think' it was actually ok as she was running round screaming and shouting with her friends as normal, but i mentioned it to teacher to keep an eye.

So basically i need to know if by there being blood i need to go get it checked out now?, school havent rang so she's ok(i hope) but i feel AWFUL

My mum did this to me once. She used to clean our ears with hair grips . No harm done. It's best to wipe just around the edge with a cotton bud. Don't worry about it. It happens. At least it wasn't a metal hair grip

I would get the gp to check it out after school to be on safe side. I did a lot of work related to ears in a previous job and it's better just to check. You're probably right and it just caught it, but if it caused any pain, then do get it checked, for your own reassurance.

thanks, ill ask at school how shes been and have a check and if any probs will take her, but dont get finished till 6.30 (am a childminder) so may have to take her to prime care?, or try get appointment in morning, although if in any pain will get her there straight away, but like i say shes beena t schhol all day and i havent had a call, so fingers corssed!, i feel so bad, i cringe everytime i think of it

I remember my midwife years ago telling me that you shouldn't really put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear. I'm still trying....

Hey, don't worry about it - I didn't mean to make you feel bad!!!!
An appt in the morning would be fine - it's just to check nothing was damaged, that's all, as the ear canal is so short and can easily be damaged with anything put in it.
Corners of flannels are great for wiping away grime - my ds4 has the muckiest ears ever and I swear he puts great clumps of muck in there just to rile me!

It's alright. I've been told audiclear is very good.

I have the same problem with ds. His ears get manky, I clean them twice a week but they always look like they need a good clean. It's difficult getting him to keep still. After the bath is a good time as the wax is soft and comes out easily.

I have to clean the visible bit of my ds's ears at least once a day! He has very effective earwax production!
Thing is with earwax it's important to remember that it's produced for a reason,so as long as there's not so much that it impedes hearing, a bit or earwax never hurt anybody!
