Do you give your children vitamins? Advice needed

Just had a conversation with the mother in law. She was appalled that I don't give DD vitamins.
I don't take them myself, and it hadn't occurred to me to give them to DD, now I'm wondering if I should.
Thing is, with a generic multivitamin I'd be worried that DD was "overdosing". Or is this very unlikely? How do I decide which vitamins she needs?

As background, DD is 16 months. She still breastfeeds twice a day. She is quite a fussy eater and seems to have quite a small appetite. Things she eats are cheese, yoghurt, porridge, milk, eggs, raisins, apples, bananas, brocolli, peas, sweetcorn, carrots, white fish, potatoes (sometimes) breadsticks, rice cakes, Soreen maltloaf. That is pretty much it (apart from the occasional biscuit or chocolate button)
Am I a total neglectful idiot for not giving her vitamin supplements?

nope I don't give my children vitamins

I have had the fussiest bloomin daughter for 7 years but synthetic vitamins can't be processed so it's a lot pointless.

I didn't know they couldn't be processed . Is that the case for all vitamin supplements?

Don't worry about it. I think vitamins are for when you are older and run down due to the joys of life and DC's. I take em DS doesn't.

It wouldn't occur to me to give them vitamins. I am of the opinion that they should get all the vitamins they need from a healthy diet.

It sounds to me as though your dd's diet is fine - not fussy at all for a 16 month old!

I have been thinking about this too, have asked the HV but did'nt give me a straight answer at all!

My DS is extremely fussy won't touch anything bar toast, yoghurts, bananas, grapes, tomato soup, beans and sasage rolls he is almost 3 and has'nt ate 3 meals in one day since he was 14M.

So obviously he is not getting the vitamins etc he needs but was worried about vitamins actually being any good for him.

Can any of you recommend any multi vitamins which are proven safe and dont taste like shit?
