Chickenpox, babies and pregnant ladies

I've just found out that we were exposed to chickenpox in the last couple of days. DS is 6 months old. I understand that if he does catch it, it's likely to be quite mild.

However, we're hosting a baby group this week and there will be some much smaller babies and possibly some pregnant women there (who may or may not have had it before).

If ds was exposed yesterday and did happen to catch it, how long would it be before he was infectious? I don't want to panic people, but equally I don't want to expose any vulnerable people to any risks.

the incubation period is 10-21 days and the contagious period is 1-2 days before the spots appear until they crust over which is 5-7 days after the spots appear. Your lo could therefore be infectious in around 8 days time.

My 5mo dt's got it from ds2 and it was ok btw, fairly mild. Can't say I'd want to have 3 kids with chicken pox in a fortnight again but there you go...

Accessorize - I don't envy you that task, you poor thing. Glad it wasn't too serious though.

Thanks No, far worse on an active toddler/preschool IMO! Hope your ds doesn't get it nonetheless!
