rash on 10mo - only on trunk - should I be worried?

He's been really out of sorts for a couple of days - nothing I can really put my finger on but he has been a bit hot (max temp 37.8), fussy, reluctant to sleep and thus v overtired and a bit fussy over food, but still eating.

He has a rash on his trunk - it's been there for just over a day and hasn't spread but might be a bit worse - that I assume is a heat rash.

I'm assuming that this is all down to either a mild virusy-type thing or a teething push. Is there any chance it could be something more serious like measles?

sometimes wee kids get rashes after they've had a cold or other virus, so it might be nothing; but if he's had a temp for a couple of days, you've nothing to lose by taking him to the doc

Sounds like a postviral rash. does it look worse when he's hot, fade under a glass and not break the skin? If all those are a yes, it's probably postviral and okay. But do go to the docs if he becomes worse, particularly if he is very sleepy, floppy, or his temperature shoots up and cannot be reduced with painkillers.

Chickenpox and measles rashes tend to start on the head and move downwards, so seems unlikely. Also measles in a 10m old would probably have a higher temperature, conjunctivitis and perhaps a bit of a cough. Chickenpox would be identifiable from the rash turning vesicular - like blisters - fairly quickly.

I would just observe him and see what happens.

German measles is possible though - DS was suspected of having this but it was just a post-viral rash. Both I, DS, and DH have had a virus followed by rash in the last two months, DD has been strangely immune (we suspect she is the spreader rather than the sufferer as her friends have also had it!!!!)
