HAs a laarge wart on his knuckle.
Been there nealry 2 yrs, GP prescribed Bazooka - hasnt helped - and will not prescribe anyhting else.
Saays it will go by itself. Wont refer to have it frozen off as it is on the knuckle and would be too painful.
Any natural / alternative remedies I can try?
Thought about soaking it in castor oil>

Duct tape
Thuja
Banana skin
Potato

Have to say none of these have worked for me... The duct tape thing seems to be a miracle for lots of people though.

You could ask the gp to give you verugon - much stronger than bazooka.

MrsMcCluskey · 17/04/2009 13:02

The duct tape wouldnt work as the wart is on his knuckle so he wouldnt be able to bend his finger.

Duct tape? You just wrap it in duct tape? Wierd! I've had a wart on my finger for 8yrs,(so would ignore GP saying it will go on its own!) so anythings worth a try!

TheFallenMadonna · 17/04/2009 13:25

My MIL swears by wart charmers. She can't understand why we haven't found one

I've heard that the sap from dandelion stems works.

TheFallenMadonna · 17/04/2009 13:29

I know!

Big in the country. Or at least Devon. Or in my MIL's world anyway.

They don't charge. Don't advertise. She has only met three before. But she still nags at us to find one

dearprudence · 17/04/2009 13:34

My DS had a wart and GP would not prescribe anything as it was on his head.

The GP told me that there have been clinical trials suggesting effectiveness of both duct tape and banana skin. The banana skin seemed like a bit of a faff - it has to be fresh every day, with all the fleshy bit scraped off then taped to the wart.

The other thing he said is that they can be scrubbed off, with something like a pan scrubber/brillo pad.

Occasionally, we'd 'wash' his face with a flannel and be a bit rough over the warty area. It didn't hurt him, but sometimes the wart bled, then it would shrink quite a lot. After several attacks treatments it disappeared altogether.

at TheFallenMadonna's MIL. Mine thinks you can cure warts by burying meat in the garden.

TheFallenMadonna · 17/04/2009 13:36

See, that would be so much easier

Jill1977 · 17/04/2009 21:31

Banana skin is one of the best remedies for children. Cut a small piece of banana skin and tape it over the wart (inside of the skin against the wart) and leave on for as long as possible(all day if they will let you). Repeat this again the next day for up to a week. Or the same with potato skin. I was a podiatrist and this is what we recommended for verrucaes. Hope it works!
