Incubation for scarle fever - how long?

Have just had a call from a parent of one of DD's friends to say her DD has scarlet fever. DD last played with her on thursday - how long before I can be sure she isn't about to come out in it?

And am I right in thinking that a rash is always present with it - should that be the main thing to look out for? We are meant to be going away to a family gathering next week (wednesday) but obviously I don't want to take a highly contagious child!

It can be a week IIRC, starts off with a high fever, headache, then the sore throat. The pink tongue can last anything between 10 mins (ds had it for 10 mins) plus, the rash on ds only lasted for a few hours.

I may be completly wrong here though.
