Bump to the head - am I just ove-rreacting?

Ironically DS (nearly 4) was in hospital this am with DH having a consultant's appointment when he tripped and fell and hit his head on a wooden chair leg. DS apparently cried immediately and Doc and about 4 nurses put ice on it and had a look at him and said he should be fine - and so far he has been himself. But an ENORMOUS goose egg has appeared on his forehead which just looks awful. Obvouosly slightly concerned there might be damage that you can't see. DS has been on good form all afternoon but now he is asleep I'm starting to have the worry about will he be OK overnight.

Am I just over-reacting?

did the lump come up straight away?

I was told by a dr when ds1 did similar when 2 that bumps on the front of the head were less of a concern than those to the back and that it was a good sign if a lump came up.

However i do worry lots about bumps to the head - i'd perhaps wake him up in the night to make sure he's ok. However if he's not been sick or sleepy i suspect he's fine.

Yes apparently it grew before DH's eyes. It's just now that he is asleep I can have a proper look at it and it seems to be getting more purple and the bruise is exanding somewhat. I am assuming that's just the bruise coming out and have put a load of arnica on it.

DH also said that the chair moved when DS hit it which makes me feel slighly better - and the fact it was made of wood.

I think I will check him in the night just to be safe. Thanks

My GP said that it was less worrying if a reaction came up on the skin than if nothing appeared, so hopefully all is well. Look out for vomiting, twitching, drowsiness etc.
