7 month old with tummy bug: Advice/reassurance please!

Sorry to go into detail but I feel I should to give the full picture:

My DS is almost 7 months and started on solids almost 2 months ago. He is now completely formula fed. On Monday evening just after eating his "tea" he vomited it all up but I didn't think anything of it as he had been bouncing although he's never been a sicky baby at all so I was surprised. But then after his bedtime milk feed he was very sick again. The next morning I took him to the GP who was very thorough and did some checks but said the thing he was most concerned was that DS was crying so much. He said if he didn't seem any happier later on we should bring him back or take him to hospital. Throughout Tuesday we managed to get him to drink a couple of very small, diluted bottles, he kept a couple down but then vomited one immediately. He became very floppy and drowsy and pale which, when usually he is such a happy, lively baby was very worrying and we ended up taking him to A&E where the Dr quite patronisingly told us it was a bad tummy bug and he sees it all the time. Anyway, yesterday he seemed much improved and back to his usual self although he started with diarrhea but was taking full bottles and keeping them down. He slept well and woke up this morning very chirpy and glugged down his bottle. Although after each feed he would immediately FILL (sorry!) his nappy. However he seemed so much brighter I gave him a little bit of mango and banana puree which he enjoyed but during his lunch time nap he was sick, not a lot but I guess the puree didn't agree with him. Since then he has been having sips of water but has thrown up the 2 milk bottles I have given him pretty much immediately after drinking them. After being sick he is completely normal and happy! What I want to ask is IS THIS NORMAL?? and WHEN WILL IT GO AWAY?! I'm really worried about him so any advice/reassurance would be much appreciated xx

My DS has recently had similar problem, whilst me and DH and other 3 kids had vomiting and diarrhea that lasted 24 hrs, DS couldn't keep anything down for 5 days and in desperation we took him to A&E, they were thankfully very understanding and gave some much needed reassurance.

The main advice was really lots of fluids preferably squash (not sugar free or no added sugar) to keep sugar levels up (forget about tooth decay for a few days) and to avoid dairy, but if child really insisted on milk to let them have a little. Let them eat whatever you can get them to take even though it will probably result in vomiting/diarrhea until tummy settles.

It is extremely worrying to see babies so poorly hope it soon passes : )

Thanks so much for your reassuring responses and advice - really helped me feel a bit less anxious and he seems a lot better today!
