My nephew has Glue Ear and his GP wanted to go straight for grommetts. I looked on the National Society for Deaf Children website and saw that there is a balloon treatment to clear his ears. Heres the link

www.ndcs.org.uk/document.rm?id=2740

It is available on prescription, reccomended by NICE and the GP didn't even know about it. They even have a website www.gluear.co.uk

My sister is really worried about the anasthetic and infection. Has anyone else had the same experience?

Otovent is the balloon treatment. I just bought it over the counter from Boots and it was really effective on my DS, it worked straight away. My GP didn't appear to know about it when I mentioned it. Definitely worth a try.

I didn't know about either so thanks for the link.

We don't really refer for grommetts and actually refer for a specialist opinion. If it works well I would expect that in children where it might be worth a try the specialist will suggest it.

It's nice to know about in advance though so thanks for the link. Since it seems to be harmless it might be worth trying while we are waiting for the specialist opinion.
