DD (11mo) was diagnosed with scarlet fever on friday, she had a temp of 39.7 and a rash on her torso, took her to gp who said scarlet fever (he discounted measles because she didn't have 'measley eyes')
Friday night temp was sky high, just about controlled with calpol/nurofen.
Sat morning rash spreading to arms/legs, temp still up
Today rash spread to face and soles of feet temp normal. Rash on torso fading and scabing a bit.
DD is fine in herself so not overly worried, gp gave ab's and said rash would fade by monday which I really cant see happening.
Does this sound like the norm for scarlet fever or should I be looking at something else?

Sounds possible . What about her throat (it is related to a Strep throat infection) Is she on ab's ? ds ahd it at 4 and was unwell for a couple of days but then fine with rash.

Yes it sounds like scarlet fever to me. You will know for sure when the skin starts to peel off. Obviously she can't tell you but does she seem to have a sore throat. I have had scarlet fever and the sore throat is the worst bit. Fever being gone before rash is quite normal too.

I hope the doc told you it is highly contageous and she should be kept away from other children for a period of time.

She's been of her food a bit so I took that and the fact that I've had a horrible throat to mean she had a sore throat. We got ab's so hopefully she should improve soon.
Salleroo- No doc said nothing at all about keeping her away from other ppl, I googled and that said 24/48 hours after ab's was ok, but i've got another thread running where i've been told 5 days so I'll obviously stay at home for the 5 days.

does she have 'strawberry tongue' we were told this was v helpful in securing diagnosis

There is a current out break at the mo - def keep away from other children - very easily caught!
Hope little one feels better soon.
