Tongue Tie in the older child..

Hi.

Just wondering..Tongue tie i have found seems to run in my family.. my Dsis has two children with it, my DS2 was born with it (i found out as i was BF and had problems, he has now had it snipped)

Trouble is, i had contact with my DD (14) and she has always had speech problems, i wondered if it may be down to undiagnosed TT.
I checked and sure enough, she has it. I believe (and feel racked with guilt atm ) that she wouldn't have the speech problems she has if it had been diagnosed and sorted at birth.

Would it make any difference having the OP now and would the hospital sedate her as she is older (my DS had it done without anaesthetic due to his young age)
I mentioned it to her and she is keen to have it done if it would make a difference.

Thanks

Don't know but I am interested - I have a tongue tie that was not diagnosed as a baby and I suspect its why my DM never successfully BF me.

No speech problems, but can't blow a raspbery properly (among other things). I'd have it snipped if I could but I'm not sure if they do it on adults.

I have one too, and have a friend with one right to end of tongue. I can't eat icecream from a cone, my friend says the only thing she missed was deep french kissing! so ime it wouldn't hurt speech. my dd had one too, so guess it is hereditary - we had hers snipped at 5 days though.
don't beat yourself up about it.

Thanks

But it has affected my DD's speech really badly.
I'm more pissed off as she had speech therapy and it wasn't noticed then..but then everything about being a mum is designed to make you feel guilty lol

here is something i found, so i assume they would operate on an adult, will have to ask the FC to check it out.
