I have just been told that DD1, 8 months, has eczema

I have had quite severe eczema all my life so it is not unexpected but because I know how distressing and unpleasant it can be, I am really upset for her. It is thankfully fairly mild at the moment but seems to be getting worse each day.

I'm not sure what has triggered this. We introduced a bedtime routine recently with daily bath and am wondering if this is aggravating it, particularly since we live in a hard water area and this has always made my eczema worse.

She has also started solids in the last couple of months and I haven't noticed a reaction to any food in particular but perhaps there is something in her diet that is acting as a trigger. I am very reluctant to start excluding foods from her diet when there is no evidence to support a link, however.

I have read postive reports of supplementing diets with probiotics, DHA, etc.

I wondered if there is anything Mnetters have tried that has improved their child's skin?

My doctor prescribed Oilatum Junior for the bath yesterday. We used it last night and it seems to have made her skin worse though that might be coincidence. Has anyone else had problems with this treatment?

Thanks

My son had it when he was 6 months old and now he has grown out of it (he is 18 months). I think bathing everyday might have triggered it. You can try bathing him less often. I do every alternate day now. I hope your daughter grows out of it with age as mine did.
