my dd, 20 months, knocked her head very hard against the side of the loo and now has a huge lump on her forehead. Am panicking as I hate it when she hits her head and she has never had a big bump before. It happened 3 hours ago now. She hasn't been sick and is now asleep. She played very happily for 2 hours afterwards. What should I look out for? very worried as is night time now and so she is sleeping and I cant watch for any change in behaviour.

How is she today?
I wouldn't worry too much, they bang their heads all the time, toddler heads are like little balls of concrete, and IMO if the bump is visible then that means that the pressure/swelling is on the outside. I worry if they smack their heads and I cant see a bump!

Oh i feel your pain! My Ds2 has had such bad bangs that once his head came up with a big egg so large I felt physically sick, we did take him to A&E that time....he had run headlong into DS1 (ds1 was fine!)
I think the general opinion, is that if she is playing normally, not vomiting or seeming dizzy, that she is absolutely fine. Just keep an eye on her.
The lumps on their heads come up so large sometimes though, it is quite shocking!

I rang NHS Direct about the same thing a few months ago and was told to rouse DS (no need to fully wake him) every 2 hours to make sure that he was responsive. This is the checklist for if he was ok not:

Is the bump hard? (hard bumps usually ok but if it's soft then see someone ASAP). Can they recall something that happened before the accident and something that happened since? Any bleeding or liquid from the ears? Using all limbs normally?

thanks for messages. She is absolutley fine today. Bump has gone and just has an impressive bruise in its place.

Makkapakkaspacamac I dont know if the bump was hard or soft. I take it though as it has now been 24hrs and she is okay I dont't need to worry anymore or is that not the case??

At least now I'll know to check if the lump is hard or soft for future bumps!!
