peronally having had a baby with reflux and who is also cow's milk and wheat intolerant i'd be quite worried about the effect the lactose is having on him and the long term damage it could do it he's reacting to it as strongly as he is.

have you tried telling them that you aren't going to give the medication and seeing if a slot miraculously opens up?

how about going back to one of the old medicines but giving it after the feed like they suggested for this one and seeing if it stops the reaction in that medicine as well?

mad4mybaby · 09/03/2009 11:01

they didnt say. just that he has it severely. We watched the barium and it wasnt instant it was during feeding but he does relux immediately when he feeds sometimes. Hehad a ph study done a month or so ago and when i was at the hosp thur they told me that the ph study showed nothing! I said but how is that when barium proved severe reflux and he said i dont know, it must have been a dudd machine

he is on max domperidone

it was omeperazole and ive thrown it away. About half an hour after giving it to him he would just double up in pain and would scream and scream for about 5 hours solid. They said he must just have a sensitive stomach

sick isnt really a problem. he IS sick but not a great deal (ds1 was projectile with reflux!) The domperidone has def helped his wind as he couldnt burp before!

I just dont know what to do. gp said that if i stopped this med and went back to hosp they'd say i hadnt given it enough time and kept going on about it being such a small amount of lactose that it shouldnt matter!

You could also try ringing your local paeds ward - they maybe able to speak to the doc for you or get the doctor to ring you. Another option is to ask your GP to refer you to the rapid referal clinic at your local hospital - thats usually an appointment within a couple of days. Not sure if all hospitals have those clinics but might be worth a try. Another person who might be able to refer you to rapid assesment would be your HV.
Hope you find a solution for your little one soon.

im so sick of this. i went yesterday and all they said was that he had to come off that med and see what happened within 48 hours but that there isnt anything else they can do for him?! i cant leave him to suffer!!

What do i do? Ive done so many private appointments i cant afford anymore

Where did you go yesterday? The hospital again? Where abouts are you based? Is there another nhs hospital you could attend? Sorry you're having such a rubbish time with it all.

mad4mybaby · 10/03/2009 14:50

yeah the casu unit at the childrens hosp at brighton. i just spoke to my gp in tears about it, she said there are no other meds to give him. She is doing a script for ranitadine and that no it wouldnt help his symptoms but that it will help prevent some of the damage. It is the best hosp around us for children. she is going to try to see if she can get us an appt any sooner than the 3 weeks time one ive got but she doubts it.
