Vomiting & lethargy 8 days after MMR -- unrelated tummy bug?

DS is 18 months and had MMR 8 days ago, as well as his second pneumococcal vaccine. We've been on the lookout for a bit of reaction (though hoping to get away without any), as people kept saying it might hit him after seven to ten days.

Got the call from nursery to say he'd been unwell earlier, so have brought him home. He has been violently sick two times and in between has seemed subdued and pale, all the usual tummy bug stuff I suppose. Spoke to doc, who said it's nothing to do with MMR, just a coincidence, because MMR does not cause a vomiting reaction.

Just wondering if that sounds right to others here -- it seems like a strong coincidence, but I don't want to be silly about this and assume it is MMR-related if that is really unlikely. However, nobody else at nursery has a tummy bug, and DS has not had anything unusual to eat or much contact with other kids in the past few days.

My main thought is, if this is unrelated, will he also get knocked for six by a separate MMR reaction in a day or so?

Our health team advised that temp can spike and LO suffer measles like symptoms 8-10 days after the jab but it would clear up much faster that 'normal' measles but not to take it for granted it WAS the jab causing it.
DS did have some vomiting/diarrhoea and a very faint rash about a week after (during the night). We were going to take him to the doc the next day but it seemed to have cleared.

YOur doc may not give hin the separate jab if he's been unwell with temperature/vomiting within a few days of it being due

Sorry Iklboo, I'm not sure what you mean about the separate jab? He's not due any more jabs.

actually, I see, you thought that was what I was saying ... I just meant that he might still get a separate reaction to last week's MMR, if this sickness is (as our doc thinks) an unrelated bug.

I am a bit worried. He has slept a while, and woke up and was quietly chatting, then suddenly began to cry hard and loudly as if in pain, and it took a while to calm him. Gave Calpol. He seems hot but has stopped crying now. poor wee doll, I wish he could say what he is feeling.

Anyone else able to say if MMR reactions ever do include vomiting? Probably I should just listen to the doc, but it's hard not to wonder.
