Dd2 (2.11) has the cough/cold that dd1 had lat week, i can't get any cough medicine into her (she has Autism and fights me off when i come near with medicine). She has been asleep for 1 hour but is coughing a lot but not enough for her to wake (it takes a lot to wake her) but enough to almost make her sick. Her nose is really conjested (sp) and she's making auful noises.

I have put some carvoil(sp) on her pillow which doesn't seem to be helping, is there anything else i can do?

The cough only seems to be bad at night, during the day she seems bright and happy.

zilch. our dd 2yr and ds 4m have got this... there is a nasty bout of broncholitis going round, we have just been in hospital overnight with ds wioth it and hospital said there isn't much you can do, the dc's have to fight it off themselves. they gave us a nebuliser ? for ds to help his breathing but other wise nothing more than calpol. i can sympathise, we've been managing on no more than abourt 4 hours sleep in little bits. on the plus side, me and dh are geiing loads of cups of tea because we just sit up in bed drinking tea whern we can't sleep!

and both dd and ds are practically fine during day, hardly coughing, other than being bit tired because of their sleep being a bit broken at night.

if her breathing seems bad at anypoint ring nhs direct and tell them her breathing is struggling, they will dewal as necc.

can sympathise with you, it's awful, isn't is?

but as a doctor at hospital said, it bothers you more than its bothering them. that did helop slightly, but you're still knackered when they ewake you up at night!

Thank you, her breathing is a lot clearer now and not coughing as much. Dd1 had it for a couple weeks, they seem to keep passing it backwards and forwards, i can't remember the last time i had a full nights sleep.

Can you humidify her room a bit? Also prop up her bed at the head end - does she use a pillow?

Marne · 26/02/2009 20:52

I have given her an extra pillow but she tends to push them out the way and lie flat. Maybe i could try and raise one end of her bed by shoving some books under it.

Yes, books under the bed end was what we did.
