Anyone got any tips on how to give medicine to 15 month old who doesn't like it?

My DS is on a course of antibiotics for a chest infection. Last time he was on amoxycillin he hated it, but as he was just 7 months we were at least able to get it in him. I tried his first dose today and he just pushed the spoon out of my hand covering everything in that vile yellow liquid. He hates calpol too, basically anything sweet and sickly! So how do you give medicine to your children?

Thanks

at this age, a syringe aimed into the pouch of their cheek

Ask your pharmacist for a dosing syringe.

Maybe mix it with yoghurt?

Do not aim the syringe at the back of their throat as this makes them throw up

At this age with my DCs I used to mix it in with a petit filous. Meant they got 3 petit filous every day but they didn't mind and they did eat it!

Don't use a spoon, use a syringe, you can get one from the chemist, then pretend it's a space rocket which leaves magic medicine (a bit at a time) on his tongue.

I can only give my dd medicine if it is a suppository. I don't know why this isn't offered routinely for children. Cost maybe? Perhaps worth asking your doctor if your ds's medicine is available in this form.

Smarties, chocolate buttons - reward of your choice!

We used a syringe first time which led to him having major issues with having anything put in his mouth, including food! He's only just started accepting a spoon in the last month. Will try the drop at a time though and see how that goes!

I like the yogurt idea, will definitely give that a go.

Thank you!
