My dd's got painful pale poos. What's up?

My poor little 1 yr old was sick last week - threw up 3 times over a couple of days. She was off her food a little bit but in good form otherwise. I already got helpful advice from several mnetters about it, so thanks for that.

Yesterday, however, the poor little thing had the most painful poo. (TMI alert) She was squealing in pain as she pushed it out, and the result was hard and quite pale. She had two of these poos yesterday (the first at 5 am, great!) I've been trying to give her water to drink through the day since the vomiting, but perhaps not enough. What do you wise mumsnetters think?

Any advice/ideas of what could cause this?

The hardness is probably what hurt, though dd1 (5) just had gastroenteritis and pooing was painful for about 6 days, even though the real diarrhoea part was better, iyswim.

The paleness is usually when one's liver is upset - normal after/during a tummy bug of any sort

Yes, I think lots of water good idea, but otherwise its probably just a matter of time...hope she's better v soon!

Thanks Eilbean.

The pain seems to have calmed down, but the poos are still pale. Should I be concerned?

dd's were pale for a couple of days...if its still going on over the weekend, I would take her to the GP on Monday. Or before, if she seems ill...but otherwise I think its normal for the digestive system to be 'upset' for a few days post-bug
