are there any natural alternatives? he's not too ill with it so am not worried but just not too keen on giving him loads of calpol. he's 8 months old and this is his first cold.

I would give Calpol but only when you really need it - like if he is really grumpy or won't sleep, rather than giving it every x hours. We usual end up being fine with just using it at night time and avoiding it in the day.

Just wanted to state that I don't have a prem baby, just telling you what I would do usually, for a baby old enough for calpol.

And well done for getting to 8 months without a single cold!

Oh and you don't say how prem your baby is, they need to be a minimum of a certain weight to be have it. For a non prem baby it is about the avaergae 2-3 month old baby but no idea about your prem baby. It will say it on the pack though but just give it a quick check.

ooh thanks for the quick reply -
I know i'm amazed we've gone so long without a cold.
i just gave him 20 ml last night. (he's 13 lbs)
was just hoping there was a natural alternative that i could give him more regularly

Lol. I give my DD (14 months - 21 lb) 5ml so I think you might mean 2! 20ml is about 4 teaspoons.
