Dd2 has a weird fleshy growth on her scalp

She told me about it whilst I was washing her hair, so I had a look and it is a tiny growth about the size of one of those little decorative balls you get for cakes (sorry crap comparision).

Anyway, it is really hard to describe but it is fleshy and pink and looks like it will bleed when you touch it but it didn't. She said it didn't hurt.

It definatly isn't any skin condition I have ever come across before and is just really odd, jelly and fleshy like.

sounds like a polyp

shonaspurtle · 24/02/2009 21:05

A skin tag? I've had them on my back but you can probably get them anywhere.

CrackerNut · 24/02/2009 21:06

Hmm she has had a skin tag before, as have I and it's not really like that.

Not sure what a polyp looks like, will google.

I think I have one of these on my head.
It's right on the top so I can't see it, but it feels like a hard blob. Not squidgy really, quite hard.

ScorpiowithabigS · 24/02/2009 21:08

they look like dark red sort of leshy little lumps, almost like a small berry from in the middle of a pommegranit? you can get them tied off and they drop off.

CrackerNut · 24/02/2009 21:10

This is a bit squidgy, definatly not hard. It kinda looks like you'd imagine a bunch of small cells to look.

Sorry, am really not describing it very well but have never sen anything like it before.

Everytime I google, the only thing that comes up is a neurofibroma, which from what I can work out is linked to a gentic condition so it can't be that.

Could be that then Scorpio, sounds similar.

Will montor it and if it gets any bigger or starts to irritate her then i will see the gp.

Must remember to be careful when brushing her hair.

I'd stop googling or you'll imagine it's something it's not...

Go to your GP if you're worried.

Most things are labelled fatty deposits at our doctors. (dad had one under his eye, dh had one elsewhere...)

alibobins · 24/02/2009 21:12

Ds had a funny lump come up on his face more like a blown up blood blister it turned out to be a pyogenic granuloma you could google images to see.

smartiejake · 24/02/2009 21:14

I have two of these on my scalp under my hair. Had them since I was a teenager. Can't remember what they are called but Dr said totally harmless.
