My DS got impetigo last spring and it cleared up quickly once we got antibiotics and cream for it.
It came back about 10 days ago, the doctor didn't seem that bothered about it, but we got anti biotics again and the same cream as before. We have finished the course but hasn't really improved the appearance of the redness, and some sores around his mouth and nose.
Last time round the school were concerned as its contagious, but the doctor wasn't bothered and said not to keep him off or anything.

anyone know of a better remedy, or anything which has worked for them? My DS i 9, if that is relevant.
thanks

I would take him back. Impetigo can be very nasty it it takes hold and can become very widespread. The treatment should have cleared it up so perhaps he needs something different this time.

I am surprised the doctor was not concerned about contact as it is extremely contagious amongst children.

i caught it when i worked as a carer it is awful and drives you mad!
was on 12 antbiotics a day for two weeks,
best thing is to keep clean dont reuse any towels ect.
hopefully it will clear up.

oh impetigo is hideous isn't it.

DS1 and DD had a series of bouts tho not for a long while thank goodness

You need oral abs, I never found the cream did anything. If they don't clear it up go back for a stronger dose. But please don't send him to school till they have kicked in.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments - yeah everything which I have read about it pointed to keeping him off school etc - but on both occasions with different GP, they have both said no way, he is fine at school. The last GP even has her own DC at the same school.
We will go back for more ab, will see if can get appoointment for today or Monday.
cheers
